Happy belated Easter to everyone! Did you all have lots of chocolate bunnies and robin's eggs? Those are just a couple of the things that were demolished at our house this weekend between me, Joe, Mom, Dad and Grace. Joe and I had a great time with them over the weekend and I hope that they enjoyed their trip too. It probably wasn't a very restful vacation, but we did try and show them several of the fun and interesting things around Kansas City that we like to do.
Mom, Dad and Grace got to our house around 2 a.m. Friday morning, but didn't get to sleep in much after that since we were planning on being downtown for a tour of The Roasterie coffee "factory" at 10 a.m. that same morning. Joe and I have been on this tour before and thought that it was really cool to see what all goes into growing, buying and roasting the coffee beans. The Roasterie makes some great coffee and gives a pretty neat, free tour every morning at 10, so if you're ever in KC you should definitely check it out. Here are pictures of Grace and me as coffee beans :)
After The Roasterie tour, we headed to an area called Westport for lunch and some shopping. After lunch at Joe's Pizza, Dad and Joe headed off to the Boulevard Brewery for a tour while Mom, Grace and I hit up some fabric and antique shops. The weather that day was beautiful and it was great to spend some time walking around the historic Westport area.
We had to get up even earlier on Saturday morning so that Dad, Grace and I could run the Easter Egg 5k race! It was pretty chilly that morning, but it made for good running weather. Just as I expected, Dad kicked both mine and Gracie's butts. This makes the 2nd 5k I've run with Dad, and the 2nd time that he's beat me. I did finish before Grace, but not by much. Thanks to Dad and Gracie for running it with me! It made me feel a little better about all the Easter candy I ate the rest of the weekend :)
Later that day we got some great food at Hillsdale Bank BBQ for lunch, then drove out to Somerset Ridge Winery, and learned all about the wines they make there. We came home with several bottles, hehe. Joe and I have been to that winery several times now and they make some really great wine! Saturday night we dyed eggs before going to bed. Grace gave them 2 thumbs up!
Sunday morning we went to church then spent the rest of the day hanging around the house and of course had a big, delicious Easter dinner. Mom and Dad provided the honey baked ham then we made potato salad, green beans, deviled eggs and fruit salad. Joe was excited that we finally got to use our new china ;) Then Mom whipped up a very yummy lemon cream pie for dessert.
I took work off on Monday and we spent some time shopping around and getting lunch at the Country Club Plaza. Monday night we made pizza for dinner. I don't think I'll ever get tired of homemade pizza :)
It was a very busy weekend, but I had so much fun, and I hope everyone else did too! Thanks, Mom, Dad and Grace for coming to Kansas City and spending Easter with us! We're looking forward to seeing you again soon.
